Snow Peas Recipe from WGN Lunchbreak September 27, 2009

You probably just saw us on WGN Lunchbreak so thanks for stopping by our little ol’ cookbook blog. How did we update our blog this quickly? Magical technology, that’s how. Below is the recipe for Snow Peas that we just cooked up to go along with those delicious asian chicken skewers you were drooling over. We also had The Sesame Peanut Noodles up on the table. Both of those recipes can be found in our cookbook “Freshman In the Kitchen: From Clueless Cook to Creative Chef” which you can buy by clicking on that huge blue icon right over here ————————————>

snow peas

Stir Fried Snow Peas with Shitake Mushrooms and Yellow Peppers
Serves 4-6

1 lb snow peas
1 yellow pepper, sliced
1 3.5 oz package shitake miushrooms, stems removed and sliced
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
1-3 teaspoons chili sauce (to taste)
2 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds

1.  Heat a 12 inch skillet with oil until the oil begins to smoke.  Add the sliced shitake mushrooms and cook for 2-3 minutes, until they are just starting to brown.
2. Add yellow peppers and cook for another one-two minutes, stirring occasionally.
3. Add the snow peas and cook for another minute.
4. Add soy sauce and chili sauce and stir so that it coats the vegetables.  Continue until  peas turn darker green and are cooked but still crunchy.
5. Remove from heat and add sesame oil.  Stir well.
6. Serve by arranging on a platter and garnish with a small sprinkling of toasted sesame seeds.

Please remember to check us out tomorrow on ABC-TV where we will be cooking a whole new recipe and showing off several other recipes from our cookbook.

AND… on tuesday evening we will be doing a live demo at The Chopping Block in Lincoln Sq. You can get all the info below! Please come as all proceeds from the cost of the demo go to Common Threads Charity!

Eli and Max Sussman will bring their message that enough’s enough when it comes to microwave popcorn, take-out pizzas and little cardboard boxes filled with gelatinous goodies to the seventh annual Kerrytown BookFest in Ann Arbor Michigan September 13. They are part of a literary ”foodie day” which stresses locally grown food that includes the talented road dogs of Jane and Michael Stern who are sponsored by Michigan Radio.

The two brothers, (Eli went to MSU and Max to U-M) have collaborated on a cookbook, “Freshman in the Kitchen: From Clueless Cook to Creative Chef”, published through Ann Arbor’s Huron River Press. The two brothers got their first lessons in cooking their parent’s home in Huntington Woods. They will do a demo at the BookFest in the Hollander’s upstairs Kitchen shop at 2:00 P.M. For more details on the BookFest go to www.kerrytownbookfest.org
