Where it sort of all began August 30, 2010

Feeling sentimental today.

Here’s a picture of Max and I cooking together at Camp Tavor in Three Rivers, MI circa 2004. Probably not the best idea to give two 20ish year olds control of a $60k+ food budget for an entire summer but we turned out the best food the camp has ever had. 180 campers and staff. 3 meals a day, two snacks. That’s trial by fire right there.

I love that max is wearing a duct tape kitchen survival belt that he actually made and used all the time. That wasn’t for show. That was fully functional folks.

We should have used this for the back cover of the book>

Three Rivers, MI? I didn’t know there was anything out there besides the two big factories. Kalamazoo is a great college town though.

Indeed, nestled amongst the cornfields of western Michigan lies a semi-socialist jewish summer camp where Max and I reigned supreme over the kitchen kingdom.

If you can visualize wet hot american summer but frankly a lot more ridiculous, that was our camp. Although max was never in love with a fridge.

This photo predates the Era of Kate, so it has to be from before 2004 :) !
